From 30th June 2021 we are no longer providing cover for Breakdown Assistance on our website.
We will keep track of the demand for this cover and may reintroduce it in the future. Policies purchased before 30th June 2021 aren't affected and your cover will carry on until your policy expires.
European Breakdown Cover
What's covered?
Why do I need European Breakdown cover?
When you’re driving in another country, the last thing you’ll want to do is break down abroad. And if you don’t have insurance, there’s a lot you’ll need to sort out. First, you’ll have to find an English-speaking recovery company who understand your problem and can tow you to safety. Then, you’ll need to find a garage to fix your car. Plus, if you can’t get your car fixed before you return, you’ll need to pay the cost of getting you and your car back home. Not only is this process stressful and time consuming, but the cost of recovery, labour and repair can be incredibly expensive.
But, if you take out European Breakdown cover, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that help is at hand, 24/7. You can call our English-speaking helpline at any time, so you can focus on enjoying your holiday, knowing you’re protected.
We will try our best to repair your car at the side of the road and, if this isn’t possible within an hour, we’ll take your car to the nearest garage for expert repairs. If you’re still not moving within eight hours, we’ll provide you with a suitable replacement vehicle or overnight accommodation. This way, you can relax and enjoy the rest of your holiday as planned.
My car is over 10 years old; can I still get Breakdown cover for Europe?
Unfortunately, if your car is over 10 years old, we’re unable to provide you with breakdown cover for your European trip. This is because, as per our policy documents, our European Breakdown cover only covers cars that are 10 years old or less.
Please be aware that, if your car is over 10 years old and you take out our breakdown cover for Europe, your policy will not be valid.
Which countries am I covered for
How long am I covered for?
When you take out our European Breakdown cover, a single trip to Europe must not last longer than 31 days in duration. In addition, travel must not exceed 90 days in total during the period of cover.
This means, whether you’re looking for European Breakdown cover for a single trip or something that covers you annually, our cover is suitable for most travellers. The full level of cover that applies to your European Breakdown cover is shown in your confirmation email.
